Sarah's Story

I always wanted to hike the Kokoda Track. I have no direct connections to anyone who fought in the campaign but felt this was a great way to show my appreciation. I completed the trek over ANZAC, dawn service at Isurava, and it was an emotional experience. Reading Paul Ham’s and Peter Fitzsimons books on Kokoda allowed us to see where certain battles were fought.
I am regularly asked if I would do it again and if it is better to hike one way or the other. My answer is, I would do it again in a heart beat and it doesn’t matter which direction as they are completely different challenges. One day I will get back there and complete the hike in the opposite direction.
It was so great to meet our porters families as we hiked through their home villages too
