Lauren 's Story

I was a member of the St Joseph’s College Geelong Kokoda Trek in July with Australian Kokoda Tours. A group of parents and students had the opportunity to trek together, the pride these fathers, mothers (and an uncle!) had for the boys and the respect the boys showed in return was amazing. What a life changing experience, from the spectacular views that rewarded our first climb up to Deniki to the beautiful ever changing landscape, the wonderful people in the villages and the camaraderie shown by the entire group as they encouraged each other each day was just amazing. I cannot speak highly enough for Mick O’Malley, Ian Smith and the fantastic team at Australian Kokoda Tours. From the training sessions in the lead up to the organisation of every day on the trek we felt like we were in great hands from day 1. The knowledge of the campaign and the sincerity and relevance of information given on the trek made it a moving and emotional journey as well as a physical one. The team of porters were awe inspiring in their capacity to not only help all of our trekkers through difficult sections, interacting with our students and family members but also in the professional way they setup camp and meals each day. What a great bunch of guys (even if they did beat us at the ‘Menari Gift” and our Touch Football match in Kagi!) Thank you AKT I will be recommending to anyone that expresses an interest in Kokoda to take up the challenge and trek with you. Lest We Forget.
