Alyce's Story

I started this experience with my dad because it’s something he had always wanted to do!
We started and it’s a tough going experience, I don’t think any amount of training can make you 100% prepared for the terrain and the ups and downs you come across! However, it’s very rewarding when you realise how well you are doing and that you can mentally tell yourself you are doing an amazing job!
Unfortunately, about 3 days in, coming down templetons crossing, I sustained a knee injury.. It was a long up and down hike to get to camp but I made with the help of 2 porters and our tour overseer! I had about another hour of steep hiking to undertake the next day before being airlifted out.. It was heartbreaking to have to leave but I couldn’t of gone on.
The guys with south sea horizons were fabulous! They were in constant contact and I felt safe in their hands to get me out and get me looked after, which they did! I got updates about how my dad was going along and they could also update him on how I was doing!
I got to meet dad at owers corner when he had finished and go to the Anzac dawn service at Bomana.
The parts of the track I did see were incredible and the people and villages are beautiful! I’ll definitely be going back to do the track and finish it!!
