Kris's Story

Last year I was given the opportunity to join beyondblue on a trek on the Kokoda Trail. The trek was scheduled for Anzac Day 2016, so combined two groups I have the utmost respect and admiration for.
After loads of training and fundraising for the event, I set off, prepared to see what could be thrown at me.
To start with, the trek was far harder than I was expecting. It rained every day except one, which made the trek harder still. I stumbled away at the end with a few injuries, but am so glad I completed the trail.
The positive part of it was that I was surrounded by a great group of people, who were all there with a common goal in mind, supporting beyondblue. The team, while having very different backgrounds were very supportive of each other, and we worked as a team through every stage. We were also well supported by our guides and crew (big shout out to Nimbre) who took care of us from day 1.
To top it off, our tour guide, Jim, was simply amazing with the stories and history he provided us. I could not have had a better team leader.
To sum it up, it was the hardest thing I have done, but was totally worth it.
In hindsight, if I was to go back knowing what I know now, would I still do it?
Most certainly!
