Paul's Story

In my 70th year I though it was about time I walked the Kokoda. I knew it would be a hard slog, but went into a three month training program. I then met the eight others from the country town of Inverell, NSW who had also signed up for the trip.
Time flew & before we knew it we were in the Cessna Caravan flying over the Owen Stanley Range soon to land at Kokoda. After a quick lunch & meeting up with the porters, lead man, cooks, and not forgetting our historian, Gibson, we headed off up the track.
Only a few hours later I began to realise just how hard going it was going to be and this was just day one!
The entire trek was amazing, great history was told, beautiful songs were sang by our porters & crew, headed by Gibson our historian. What beautiful melodies. The food was fantastic & the company all the way to Owers Corner was cheerie and flawless. We couldn’t have had a better team of people with local knowledge & such politeness.
The whole trip was excellent & very informative. I would certainly recommend it to anyone but would also say that it is a tough trek so be well prepared & well trained in fitness for both body and mind.
My porter John was astounding, he was a great help & I wonder how I would have done the hike without him. A very nice young man who I hope to meet up with again some day.
